Roydon Glen surprise nomination for Inter-Dominions

By

JEFF SCOTT

The champion pacer, Roydon Glen, was a surprise nomination for the upcoming $1 million Lion Brown InterDominion Championships, at Addington Raceway, when entries closed yesterday afternoon. Roydon Glen, which retired for his first stud season at the beginning of November after he failed to stand a New Zealand Cup preparation, is one of 60 New Zealand entries for the pacers’ section of the series to be held on February 28, March 4, 7 and 14.

Neither Roydon Glen’s Templeton trainer, Fred Fletcher, or the horse’s Wellington owner, Mr Roy McKenzie, were available for comment last evening.

The Smooth Fella entire has only raced once since suffering a low bow injury in his near foreleg when swamped near the finish of Comedy Lad’s Auckland Cup nearly 12 months ago. That was in the National Bloodstock Flying Stakes "at Ashburton in September when he was a fair sixth.

The former champion four-year-old (unbeaten in 12 starts at that age) has yet to make a public aonearance this year and

Luxury Liner, the runner-up to Master Mood in the New Zealand Cup, which has gone from strength to strength with six wins this season including the Thames Cup in a national record of 4:4.8 for the 3200 m, the Radio i Free-For-All, and the Harvey Furnishings Inter-Island Challenge Stakes.
