Plane crashes but glider lands safely
PA ■ Masterton A woman pilot was killed instantly when the aircraft she was flying to tow a glider, crashed near Masterton yesterday. The police said that the single-engine Piper Cub crashed at 3.25 p.m., about a kilometre south of Hood Aerodrome in the Wairarapa shortly after take off.
The glider pilot managed to release his glider and return to the airfield. The aircraft had banked and cast into a barley field, killing the pilot on impact, the police said. They would not give further details as an inspector of air accidents was to seek the cause of the crash.
