Napier man drowns in harbour
PA Wellington A man drowned in Napier Harbour on Saturday after he caught his foot in the rope anchoring the dinghy he was diving from. He was Anthony Joseph Mitchell, aged 26, of Napier. The Napier police said the accident happened at 2.30 p.m. when he was snorkelling on the breakwater of the Napier Port entrance. Mr Mitchell was diving without tanks with a friend, Mr Guy Whaangata, also of Napier, when his foot became entangled in the dinghy’s anchor rope. His body was recovered by the police and fishermen who were alerted by Mr Whaangata.
