Prices barely steady for Invercargill wool
Prices of. medium to strong: crossbred, fleece of 34 to 37 micron remained barely steady at a sale of Invercargill wool at Christchurch last week. The Wool Board supported the sale strongly, in particular with crossbred fleece of better style and length. The board bid on almost all wool in this category and bought 40 .per cefit. Compared with the Napier sale on Thursday, prices of crossbred second-shear of 37 micron were in buyers’ favour, crossbred cotts were 2.5 per cent dearer, crossbred oddments were firm,
and crossbred second pieces and locks were up. to 2 per cent dearer. Very few lots showed yellow discoloration and fewer cotts than usual were offered. The good colour, described as the best at this time of the season for many years, was a feature of the offering. The market contained 29,377 bales, of which 80 per cent were ewe fleece and 3 per cent shorn hogget
The Wool Board .bid on 14,240 bales (48.6 per cent) and bought or had passed to it 6514 bales (22.2 per cent). The indicator price was 405 c (greasy) and 544 c (clean). The official range of clean prices was: Fine crossbred, 32-33 micron: Good, 586 to 588.
Medium crossbred, 35 micron: Good to super, 574 to 578; good, 566 to 572; good to average, 556 to 560; poor, 554 to 556.
Strong crossbred, 37 micron: Good to super, 565 to 568; good, 561 to 564; good to average, 554 to 556; poor, to 553.
Second-shear ; 5 i Crossbred, 87 micron 75125hun: Good to super, to 556; good, to 553; good to average, to 551. 37 micron 50100 mm: Good to super, to 552; good, to 544, good to average, to 540. ■ Necks Fine crossbred, 32 micron: Average to good, to 565. Pieces Crossbred; 35 micron: Average to good, to 496; average, to 490. Bellies Medium crossbred, 35 micron: Average to good, to 480; average, to 475. Locks Crossbred, 35 micron: Average to good, to 410; average, to 382.
