Davis wins semi-final

NZPA-AFP Blackpool Steve Davis is on course to collect his fourth successive title after crushing 17-year-old Scot Stephen Hendry in the semi-final of the $NZ702,500 Mercantile Credit Classic at Blackpool at the week-end. Davis won in a canter, showing no mercy to the young man many people are tipping as a threat to the current king of snooker. The score was 9-3. The three-times former world champion now meets matchroom stablemate, Jimmy White, for a $NZ140,500 first prize in what should be a classic 25-frame final. Davis played nearly flawless snooker in the first session, taking the first three frames with breaks of 75, 108 and 49. Hendry opened his account with a break of 72 to win the fourth, but it was only a temporary respite, as Davis made further breaks of 36 and 52 twice to lead 6-1 at the end of the first session, which had taken only 89 minutes.
