Megatrend wins at Rangiora
Megatrend cruised to an easy four length win in the mobile heat during the < North Canterbury 0.T.8. workouts at Rangiora yesterday. Driven by his Rangiora trainer, Erin Crawford, Megatrend took the lead after 400 m and was always travelling kindly thereafter to beat Kuini Tama, which just shaded Karara Lass for second. The winner’s time was 3:27 (for 2600 m), while the last 800 m was cut out in 61.25, and the final 400 m in 29.35. Regal Rebel led throughout to win the Cl and faster trot over 2600 metres. Pitcher tracked the leader throughout, and finished second, a length from the winner. In a gap of seven lengths back came Game Command, Springfield Command and Joe Junior. Regal Rebel trotted the distance in 3:39, the last 800 m in 60.6 s and the final 400 m in 29.95. Other winners were, Speedy Vale, Kiwi Fella, Quick Reply (CO pace, 2600 m), Newhaven (CO trot, 2600 m), Tottenham (Cl pace, 2600 m), Ceredel Lady (C2 and faster pace, 2600 m). Kotare Jac (c Marjac— Kotare Sapphire), suprisingly took time honours in the two-year-old parades. He finished strongly to beat Willem Vink (El Patron) and Premier Award (Locarno). The winner’s time was 2:46.7, the last 800 m in 61.9 s and the closing 400 m in 30.25. The other two-year-old heat was won by the talented Starship, (Lordship—Star Nurse) which beat the promising Sorts Camforth (Smooth Fella) and Debbie’s Chance (Jersey Hanover). The time in this heat was 2:47.2, the Wt 800 m in 60.2 s aH the fthal 400 m in 30.2SU'
