Honda US expands
NZPA-Reuier Columbus, Ohio Honda Motor Company 7 announced it will invest SUS4SO million to expand its American operations, brining the Japanese carmaker’s total US. investment to SUSL2 billion. The move by Japan’s third biggest car company strengthens its position as the fourth largest builder of cars on American soil behind General Motors, Ford, and Chrysler.
Honda executives announced the company would expand its engine plant in Anna, Ohio, which started limited production last September, and build a new iron-
casting plant as part of the complex. The Anna site will supply engines, drive trains, suspension, and brake parts to the company's assembly complex in Marysville, Ohio, the company said, and result in 800 new jobs when fun production is reached in 1991. Honda also has an assembly plant in Canada. The move by Honda to use U.S.-based production for major car parts is in keeping with a trend towards more local content for vehicles built in the U.S. by foreign firms, rather than reliance on imported parts.
