Wales backs payments
NZPA staff correspondent Peter O’Hara London Unlike New Zealand, Wales will support the International Rugby Board’s plans to compensate touring players for lost wages. The secretary of the Welsh Rugby Union, Ray Williams, says his committee “is of the view that players should not suffer financially be-
cause they go on tour to play rugby.” The NZR.F.U. has decided to oppose the proposals when they return to the international board meeting in London in March. If three countries vote against the proposal at the eight-member board meeting it will be lost England has sided with New Zealand, but Twickenham’s position may not be HnaL
