Special correspondent Robbers have already this year stolen more than $lOO,OOO in Auckland. In the latest hold-up, two men armed with a shotgun and an axe escaped with $30,000 after forcing the manager of the Woolworths supermarket at Henderson to open a safe late on Friday. The pair pounced on the man as he was closing the store about 11.30 p.m. They ordered him around the store, cleared the safe and tied him up before leaving about 12.15 a.m. on Saturday. The $30,000 robbery
was three days after two men ambushed a postmistress at the Albany Post Office, north of Auckland, and took $50,000 from the safe.
Also last week, an employee of a Takapuna company was robbed of $16,500 as she carried a bank bag along Barry’s Road on Wednesday.

The total amount of money taken last week was just over $lOO,OOO. Last year, which saw a "colossal” jump in reported robberies, a total of $350,000 was taken in the first nine months. Auckland detectives entered the new yar with seven big armed robberies on their books. More than $lOO,OOO of bank money was unaccounted for.
