Prices monitored
PA Wellington The Ministry of Consumer Affairs is monitoring the pricing of goods after the imposition of goods and services tax, said its executive officer, Mr Roger Perkins. A report recommending whether the Government’s preferred GST . pricing policy should be made mandatory would be prepared for the Minister, Mrs Shields, in March, he said. The preferred policy means traders showing
the total price of goods including GST, either by one inclusive price or by showing the amount of GST and the total retail price. The Consumers’ Institute had said it wanted the Government to regulate GST pricing practices. The assistant director, Mr David Russell, said the public was confused as some shops were including GST in pricing, some were not, and there were several other variations.
