D.S.I.R. is New Zealand’s premier science and technology agency undergoing rapid change to meet the challenges of the next decade. More flexible management techniques, decentralisation of activities, the introduction of marketing skills and policies directed to revenue earning, are among the techniques being adopted by the Department. There are 24 Division’s throughout N.Z. and corporate management and services are provided by the Head Office in Wellington, of which the International Science Unit forms a part. The Unit assists with the Department’s strategic and commercial overseas activities, develops policy and advisory systems and liaises with a wide variety of agencies at home and abroad in promoting and co-ordinating International co-operation. This is a senior position for an outgoing and active person who can communicate clearly and concisely, has experience in or is familiar with the public and private sectors, can work in a small team under pressure and is willing to develop new business and office techniques to improve the Department’s international performance. The person we employ will be: • A qualified fitter and turner with well developed machining skills. • Preferably experienced in working with pumps. • Able to maintain neat and accurate records. • Energetic and organised - able to work without regular supervision in the workshop or on site. • Able to deal courteously and efficiently with customers. Other useful skills would include some electrical ability and an H.T. licence. This is a salaried position and we are prepared to offer an attractive income to the right person.
