Trusteebanks Trustee bank lending grew by 20.4 per cent in the year to November, 1986, up on the 18.1 per cent growth recorded in the year to October 1986, according to Reserve Bank statistics released yesterday. lEP lifts stake Industrial Equity (Pacific), Ltd, a Hong Kong investment firm, said it had raised its
stake in Smith International Inc. to 3,218,500 shares, or 14.2 per cent of the total outstanding common stock, from 2,925,200 shares, or 12.9 per cent. The company, which is principally owned by Brierley Investments, Ltd, a publicly held New Zealand company, said it bought 293,300 shares of Smith common stock between December 23 and 31 for a total of «i 4 million. Deficit down Preliminary external merchandise trade figures for November show New Zealandimported $68.2M more last month than it exported, the
Government Statistician said. This was down from a deficit of SI49M in November last year. Exports last month brought in S9O6M (SBO9M) while imports cost $974.5 (S9SBM). The deficit for the first five months of the trade year from July 1 is $204.3M well down on last year’s 5799.6 M for the same period. BIL appointments Brierley Investments, Ltd, has appointed corporate affairs manager, Mr J. S. Beattie, as company secretary. Mr R. C. Robinson has been appointed administration manager.
