Basketball trials open
The Canterbury Countrywide men’s basketball league trials at Cowles Stadium on Saturday, January 17, will be open to all Christchurch club players, according to the coach, Mr Gary Pettis. “The trials are just not for last season’s league players,” he said before going on holiday recently. He returns to Christchurch on Monday. “I want every available club player to make the trials; there could be a few gaps to fill in the league squad.” The trials will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. next Saturday and the squad for the new season will be announced the same evening. The greater percentage of last season’s squad have been in outdoor training since well before Christmas as well as several leading and promising players in the club scene.
