Courses in demand
Summer holiday courses with subjects ranging from organic gardening to landscape design, and from delightful dinner parties to Maori, are in demand at the Christchurch Polytechnic.
More than 400 people had'enrolled for courses, said the summer school’s supervisor, Mr Murray Tasker.
Word processing, typing and telephone-system courses have proved so popular that extra classes have been arranged. Another job-re-lated course in demand is an introduction to computers.
More people want to learn to speak Maori or Japanese than other languages. Numbers are down for the traditionally popular Chinese and Italian. Some courses began yesterday. Others will not start until next week. Enrolments for some courses are still being taken.
Fees range from $5O to more than $2OO, for courses where more expensive materials are used.
