N.Z. warmer in 1986
PA Wellington New Zealand was wanner and a little wetter than average in 1986, a Meteorological Office spokesman said yesterday. Temperatures were about 0.4 degrees above average with rainfalls nationally about 5 per cent above average, he said.
Locally in 1986, parts of South Canterbury and North Otago were wettest, with both Timaru and Oamaru having 60 per cent more rain than average.
The driest areas in New Zealand in 1986 were Tauranga, Gisborne and Napier, where the rainfall was 30 to 35 per cent below average.
