Postal services busy
Staff at the Rangiora Post Office were busy on New Year’s Eve stamping thousands of letters with a special New Zealand scout jamboree date stamp. The postmaster at the temporary jamboree post office, Mr Bill Manhire, said that although no figures were kept, the number of items sent for stamping at the Rangiora
Post Office ran into thousands. The special pictorial date stamp featured the jamboree emblem. During their first three days on the site the six staff at the temporary post office handled about 3000 transactions and sold 3500 stamps, said Mr Manhire. Telephone circuits were busy on New Year’s Eve with 3500 toll calls made from the site.
