Drinking drivers

Sir,—l agree with Jeanette Hoogerwerf (December 30) that the Ministry of Transport did a good job during the drink/driving blitz. Now that they have acquired evidence of the extent of the drinking in the community, they could adopt two slogans: “Be wise, stay wise, don’t alcoholise”; and “Be wise with speed. A fool at forty is a fool indeed.” The annual cost of alcohol to the country is $9OO million and there is no justification to make a time or place to put a narcotic addictive drug in the human alimentary system. — Yours, etc.,

M. A. HOGAN. December 31, 1986.
