Thieves catch festive spirit
Brisbane NZPA-AAP The Christmas spirit is alive even among thieves — at least in Toowoomba on Queensland’s Darling Downs. Joyriders who stole and smashed an elderly woman pensioner’s car later caught the goodwill of the festive season and sent their victim an apology and $3OO for repairs.
The money means Ms Lilian Rumsey, a widow
with badly arthritic knees, can afford to have her only means of transport fixed. The thieves posted the money and a note to the Toowomba Police Station. Addressed to the “widow whose car was stolen,” it read: “Dear madam, I wish to apologise to you for the damage but have enclosed some money towards the cost of repairs.’
