Recruiting decline discounted
Withdrawing the New Zealand military force in Singapore will not adversely affect recruitment, says the director of Defence public relations, Commander Gerry Power. “The Prime Minister was asked this question at the press conference on Tuesday, and he said it wouldn’t, so the answer is no,” said Commander Power.
Postings to Singapore had not been used to attract troops, and the recruitment advertising was not geared towards Singapore, he said. “The Army is seen as a whole career prospect, with Singapore just a part of it, not an enticement.”
