Consumer warning about toy
PA Hamilton The Consumers Institute has issued a warning about a children’s toy which resembles prescription capsules. The institute’s assistant director, Mr David Russell, said the Chinese jumping beans were similar to capsules. He said that they could Be a danger to young children but little could be done about it.
A Hamilton woman was reported recently as concerned' that children could see their parents swallow capsules, and - <!'
want to do the same with the beans. Mr Russell said there were few restrictions on retailers and importers under present legislation. The Fair Trading Act, due to be enforced from March next year, would allow for more positive action to be taken by an individual.
He said that at present the Consumers Institute could only warn the public against them or try to track down the importers and ask that the goods not be brought into New Zealand.
