Babies for Christmas

By

CATHERINE HARRIS

Six couples received the ultimate Christmas present at Canterbury maternity hospitals up to late last evening. Christchurch Women’s Hospital was the busiest, with three boys and a girl being born there. Three babies were born before 7 a.m.: a daughter to Robyn and Ronald Irons; a son to Rene and Michael Dayle; and a son to Vicky Hay-don-Gliddons and Geoffrey Gliddons. A boy was born at 5.10

p.m. to Mrs Rene Manihera.

Two girls were born at Burwood Hospital — at 7.05 a.m. to Graham and Katrina Young, and at 9.35 a.m. to Warren and Verna Holland. Christmas babies were expected at Lincoln and St George’s hospitals but none arrived. None were born at Rangiora Maternity Hospital. At Kaikoura Hospital a daughter was born to Gig and Margaret Bassett at 3.55 a.m.
