Fair Cop A lady, whose efficiency in her office work has been rewarded with a senior post arrived, with a regular punctuality, at her car park at 8.25 a.m., ready for a\ recent day’s labour. But her designated' car park number was already occupied by an intruder. Her wishful thinking prompted her to go round the block; someone, she said, was probably only a fleeting visitor and would be gone on her return. She was disappointed. And frustrated. She had to leave' her vehicle in an unauthorised space, hoping to heaven the rightful owner was late for work, and she hurried to her office to telephone the caretaker of the car park. He promised the usual penalties and soon after she had made her way back to the car park the towaway vehicle arrived.
They were most efficient, and within moments the haulaway was in progress. A moment or two before the operation set sail up the street, several anxious people claimed the car. It was a police patrol, which had arrived in a mufti car, and the officers concerned, also in mufti, had evidently been staked out, watching a house nearby. Rather than take a statement from the guilty ones, there was satisfaction all around when one of the detectives produced the sum which the haulaway people demanded. The force, if embarrassed, came out of the act scot free, the haulaway driver was satisfied, and the lady at least had something to entertain her friends during the morning tea breakj,
