Awareness festival has the future in mind
A festival aimed at helping people to relax, explore alternative healing methods and to have fun will be held at Whitecliffs, 20km from Darfield in January. “Towards 2000” is a nine-day festival which will run from January 17 to 25. A festival spokeswoman, Ms Lisa Mills, said workshops and other activities would provide opportunities for greater awareness and selfexpression to help create a “meaningful sustainable future.” There will be an exten-
sive range of workshops including yoga, tai chi, creative dance, wild herbs, dream work, organic horticulture and Maori studies. Miss Mills said the workshops would be run by qualified teachers.
Entertainment for children will be provided. The singers, David Hollis, and John Grenell, and the Sylvia Forbes Dance Company will perform.
Meals will be provided and tent sites will be available. A marquee will also be available to sleep in.
A similar festival was held early this year but ran only for four days. Next January’s festival has been extended to allow people to become more involved, said Ms Mills. Admission for adults will be $l5 a day, $7 for secondary school pupils, $2 for children aged six to 12. Those aged six and under will be admitted free. The tickets includes all workshops and meals and are available from the Scorpio bookshop. Wholefoods and Piko Wholefoods.
