Queenship sold

Special correspondent Invercargill The 13-year-old Lordship mare, Queenship, one of Southland’s most prized broodmares, was sold for $26,500 at a special standardbred sale after the last race at Ascot Park on Saturday. Queenship, which is due to foal to the Albatross horse, Sonny Silver, was bought by Des Baynes and Geoff Gibson-Smith, proprietors of Southland Stables, Ltd. Nine lots were catalogued by Wrightson-Dal-gety on behalf of Mrs Marlene Piercy, of Gore, widow of the late Mr Bill Piercy. Eight lots were sold for an aggregate of $57,000. Queenship is the dam of

Bryce Buchanan, of West Plains, acting as agent, paid $4900 for Sonny’s Princess, a yearling Sonny Silver filly out of Queenship. Mr Maurice O’Rourke, of . Invercargill, outlaid $4400 for Mister Greatheart, a five-year-old gelding by Pass with Care, which has won two races.
