Queenship sold
Special correspondent Invercargill The 13-year-old Lordship mare, Queenship, one of Southland’s most prized broodmares, was sold for $26,500 at a special standardbred sale after the last race at Ascot Park on Saturday. Queenship, which is due to foal to the Albatross horse, Sonny Silver, was bought by Des Baynes and Geoff Gibson-Smith, proprietors of Southland Stables, Ltd. Nine lots were catalogued by Wrightson-Dal-gety on behalf of Mrs Marlene Piercy, of Gore, widow of the late Mr Bill Piercy. Eight lots were sold for an aggregate of $57,000. Queenship is the dam of
Carefree Princess, winner of last season’s Southland Oaks Final, Lord Hillas (six New Zealand wins) and Queen’s Advocate, the winner of four races in New Zealand. Queenship is a half-sister to Passform (P 3 1:57.7 in Queensland). Horatius, a two-year-old black colt by Double Century from Queenship, was bought for $11,500 by Mr W. J. Davidson, of Gore. Bryce Buchanan, of West Plains, acting as agent, paid $4900 for Sonny’s Princess, a yearling Sonny Silver filly out of Queenship. Mr Maurice O’Rourke, of . Invercargill, outlaid $4400 for Mister Greatheart, a five-year-old gelding by Pass with Care, which has won two races.
