Shipping news New Russian veśel in port
The new Russian cargo vessel Akademic Gorbanov will call at Lyttelton today on her maiden voyage. The 12,500-ton vessel, owned by the Baltic Shipping Company, was launched at Gdansk, Poland, on March 28. Built along the same lines as the Baltic company’s Skulptor class, the Akademic Gorbanov has been unloading general cargo from Europe at New Zealand ports. At Lyttelton, she will take on wool for the Soviet Union, and cargo for the Continent. She is due to arrive at 6 a.m., and will leave at midday.
