Crossbred easter

Most crossbred wools fell slightly in value during a sale of Invercargill wool in Christchurch yesterday, according to the official report. Compared with the Timaru and Christchurch sale on December 17, fine crossbred, 33 and 34 micron, was in buyers’ favour; medium and strong crossbred, 35 to 37 micron, was fully in buyers’ favour; crossbred second shear was up to 2.5 per cent cheaper; the cotts were firm; the skirtings were 2.5 per cent cheaper and the oddments were 2.5 to 5 per cent cheaper.

The Wool Board bid on 4795 bales, or 22 per cent of the offering, and had 1321 bales, or 6 per cent, sold or passed to it. The competition was keen and well spread, with a firming tendency toward the close. Eastern

Generally, the fleece wool was well grown and of reasonably good colour and showed a slightly improved yield, probably because of recent heavy rains in some Southland districts. A fair amount of cottiness was evident, and in most cases efforts had been made to remove these wools from main lines.

The following official range of clean prices at auction was issued by the Invercargill Wool Brokers’ Association in conjunction with the Wool Board and the Council of Wool Ex-
