Bulk electricity rate to be known next week
PA Ashburton The bulk electricity supply rate will be announced by the Minister of Energy, Mr Tizard, at noon on December 23.
The supply rate is a big component in domestic power bills. The assistant general manager of corporate services of the Electricity
Division of the Ministry of Energy, Mr Martin Holden, said the bulk supply rate would go to the Cabinet on Monday. The general manager of the Electricity Supply Authorities’ Association, Mr Terry Hore, said .the association had been pushing to have the announcement made earlier.
“Supply authorities have to work out what the retail figure will be and this has to be advertised a month before it comes into effect.” He said the bulk rate was an important component of the retail figure. “With the Christmas .break coming up we will be extremely concerned to get the figure,” said Mr
He said he thought supply authorities would work out the figure in January or February.
Mr Holden said the date of the announcement had “drifted” a bit since discussions with the Electricity Supply Authorities’ Association.
