Town’s fire station torched
PA Gisborne Fire-plagued Ruatoria has been hit yet again, this time the fire station has been destroyed. The station, in the township’s main street and opposite the police station, was destroyed minutes after the blaze was discovered about 3.15 p.m. It is the second serious fire in the township in a fortnight. Early on November 29 a threeclassroom block at Manutahi Primary School was destroyed. Gisborne’s Deputy District Police Commander, Chief Inspector Whiro Ratahi, said he was bitterly disappointed by the latest fire. It was obviously suspicious because of the building involved and the rapid way in which flames spread.
