China to replace N.Z. as market
NZPA Sydney New Zealand is about to be displaced as Australia’s third largest export market, said the Australian Minister of Trade, Mr John Dawkins. Mr Dawkins, who spent four days in China last week, said that country could be expected to take over New Zealand’s place in the export ladder, with strong growth expected in the sale of minerals and wool in particular.
Exports to New Zealand in the 1985 calendar year totalled sAustl.4BB billion ($1.93 billion), while exports to China totalled sAustl.272 billion ($1.65 billion), a 50 per cent increase on the previous year. “I expect that this year China will displace New Zealand as our third largest export market,” Mr Dawkins said. Australia’s two largest markets are Japan and the United States.
