The position is primarily responsible for the management of projects involved in Merino sheep breeding particularly high fecundity flocks. The position has a high degree of autonomy and responsibility requiring self motivation, with a strong interest and skills in sheep husbandry, and grazing management experimentation. Tara Hills is some skm from Omarama with yearround recreational and outdoor pursuits well catered for. Applicants should have a strong team commitment and preparedness to work on a wide range of animal-related projects. Animal Production Scientists (2) 11307 Invermay Agricultural Centre The increasing investment in animal research has created one new vacancy and we seek to appoint high-calibre scientists to this and an existing position. The positions largely embrace the fields of prolific sheep management during pregnancy and lactation; supervision of Merino/Booroola genotype breeding programmes; and utilisation and commercialisation of the Booroola gene. New projects include the management and reproduction of cashmere-producing feral goats as well as participation in deer and new species programmes. We are seeking highly motivated scientists who are prepared to accept the new challenges now presented in agricultural research especially in ensuring application or commercialisation of technology. While not essential, previous experience or skills in laparoscopy embryo transfer, semen collection, pregnancy and backfat scanning will assist appointees with programme development and productivity.
