‘Amerika’
Sir, —The United Nations, the peace movement, the Russians and the arms race academics are "up in arms over ‘Amerika’.” That is hardly surprising, if the series disturbs the hidden agenda of these agencies. The same would surely happen here if we saw a series called “Aotearoa — the Land of the Long White Shroud”; life after liberation by communism. But I do not think we will have to wait until 1996 to
see the transformation. We have a population of 3,000,000; the whole nation has fewer people than the city of Sydney; only 2 per cent of that population is required to make us into a Soviet satellite. And, interestingly, I have already seen a preview of “Aotearoa.” It was in June 1986. I stood in front of a picture by a New Zealand artist, Robin White. It hung in the Sydney Art Gallery. With a sense of anger and revulsion, sickened and saddened, I stood for a long time; I saw the flag smashed by the hammer and sickle.—Yours, etc., SUE HUNT. December 11, 1986.
