Milling on Coast
Sir, —In response to the letter by B. J. Devery on milling on the West Coast (December 3), she obviously does not know the facts regarding the plight of forest workers on the Coast. Has she asked any of het so-called "single-minded production foresters” if they want to log every forest? I have never met a forester expressing that view. As for forest workers not losing their jobs, only a few workers have been transferred into other •departments and the future of many others is uncertain. Even the Government does not know how many forestry staff will be surplus. If your correspondent is so proud of being a conservationist and a West Coaster (albeit an import) why does she now write over a name that few know her by? I am a Coaster, born and raised, wife of a forest worker and proud of it.—Yours, etc., (Mrs) L. M. -WINTER. Harihari, December 8, 1986.
