Intriguing contest expected at Winton

Hit the Tape, Happy Patron and Sapper promise an intriguing contest in the Development Corporation Pace at the Wairio Trotting Club’s 50th Jubilee meeting at Winton tomorrow.

Hit the Tape, a young stayer of great potential, has won two of his three starts this season. Happy Patron resumed on a winning note at Wyndham last Saturday and Sapper has not finished further back than third in three four-year-old assignments

this term. Admittedly, he received a favourable passage, but Hit the Tape could hardly have been more impressive than when he accounted for the class 2 stayers (3200 m at Addington on Show Day. Beforehand, he had been an impressive winner at Invercargill. The halfbrother to fine racemare, La Roue, became trapped along the rails in his last start at Addington and, not surprisingly, did not find racing room. Happy Patron, a top three-year-old last season, won the Hunter Handicap

on his merits last Saturday. In his first four-year-old raceday appearance he did everything asked of him and a start in the Messenger in Auckland may yet be a possibility for him.

Sapper resumed with a good third in the Waikouaiti Cup and won at his next start. He was a creditable second to Microscopic over a mobile mile at Wyndham last Saturday.

Super Roux is likely material for the Freight Haulage Pace, the second leg of the T.A.B. double.
