False Start set for Palisade Gold Cap win at Beaumont

An impressive win at the Wingatui trials on Tuesday advanced False Start in favour for the Palisade Gold Cup at the Beaumont Racing Club’s annual meeting at Beaumont tomorrow.

False Start came from well off the pace to win easily over 2000 metres. It was an effort that augured well for his prospects over 2110 m at Beaumont. His lone race over

2000 m last season yielded a fourth in the South Island Three-Year-Old Championship at Riccarton.

He won first up over 1400 m at Wyndham this season and has finished fifth and sixth in subsequent starts. Strathnann looks wellplaced half a kilogram above the minimum. She won the class-one Wyndham Cup last January and has been runner-up in her two starts this season. She has also shown a liking

for the Beaumont track; Flyer, a close second at her last start, should be to the fore. Random Chance should show his class in the Ashley Powell Memorial, second leg of the T.A.B. double. Random Chance, the winner of the Churchill Stakes (1600 m at the New Zealand Cup Meeting, reverts to 1225 m after a three-week break. He was an easy winner over 1200 m at Wingatui in September.
