An average of 10 per cent New Zealand music content is being played on commercial radio stations, according to an October survey. The survey was conducted by Radio New Zealand, Independent Broadcasters Association, and Student Broadcasters. “Whilst it is acknowledged some stations are performing better than others, we are pleased with over-all increase of up to 10 per cent,” said Mr Tony Chance, chairman of the New Zealand Music Promotion Committee which announced the survey results.
Radio New Zealand stations reported a content varying from 3.38 to 16 per cent, averaging 10.27 over all. Indepentent station figures ranged from 3.2 to 13.1 per cent, averaging ,7.49. The station manager of Auckland’s Campus Radio, Judy Anaru, reported that the content on student stations averaged 28 per cent over all.
