Il Commandante with Joe Bromby
Special correspondent Dunedin Il Commandante has been placed with Joe Bromby at Cambridge after returning to New Zealand from Australia on Sunday. Berber is back in the Didham stable. The big grey has been gelded and he is showing no sign of the soreness which bothered him during the winter.
The Thief returned home with Wingatui owner-trainer Di Bowbyes after the N.Z. Cup meeting.
There is apparently nothing amiss with Double Lang, which failed in the Canterbury Gold Cup on Saturday. He will probably return to Riccarton on December 12 and the $lOO,OOO Manawatu Cup on Boxing Day is his likely holiday assignment. Bi Noble has progressed well since finishing ninth in the N.Z. Cup after striking the running rail early and pulling hard, but he is unlikely to pursue his Auckland Cup nomination.
‘‘He hasn’t left an oat since Riccarton but it is very doubtful he will run in the Auckland Cup. I will probably start him in the Hazlett Stakes and the Invercargill Cup. Bi Noble finished fifth in the Hazlett 12 months ago and second to Sea Swift in the Invercargill Cup.
