Purau expected in January
The Lyttelton Harbour Board’s tug Purau might be at the port later in January after repairs to damage sustained during her delivery voyage have been completed. The Purau undergoes sea trials on December 23 and if no problems are found the tug’s second delivery voyage could begin soon after. The Purau ran aground on a coral reef near New Caledonia on August 7 and damaged her hull and propulsion units. She was then towed back to her builder’s shipyard in Nagasaki for repairs last month. The board’s chief engineer, Mr John Bushell, said that both of the right angle drive propulsion units were removed to allow work on reconditioning and replacing parts. The firm which built the Purau, Kanematsu Gosho, Ltd, is responsible for any costs incurred until she reaches Lyttelton. ARRIVALS Saturday Kotuku (6.12 a.m.), 16,221, Marsden Pt. (U.M.S.).
