Drug aid for the impotent
NZPA-Reuter Copenhagen Danish doctors have developed a new way to help sexually impotent men, a medical journal has reported. Two physicians tell in the "Doctors Weekly” how they injected a drug called Papaverin into the penis of a 64-year-old man who had erectile failure after prostate gland surgery. The treatment was immediately successful, with effects lasting for one hour, and the patient has since self-injected himself once or twice a week, apparently without sideeffects.
The doctors said they were unclear why the drug worked but it was probably linked to muscle relaxation. “It is estimated that about 2 per cent of Danish men have an impotence problem and half are due to erectile disr function,” said the article.
