Church anniversary planned for 1990

PA Wellington The Presbyterian General Assembly has urged Presbyterian and Union churches in New Zealand to recall local history and heritage for the churches’ 150th anniversary in 1990. More than 1000 Presbyterians are expected to gather in Wellington in February, 1990, to celebrate the anniversary. Although more than three years away, the General Assembly had elected a high-powered committee at its meeting in Palmerston North, led

by a past moderator, the Very Rev. David Steedman, of Wellington, to ensure the celebrations are a success. It is all designed to give the country’s 350,000 Presbyterians the opportunity to recognise and give thanks for their heritage. A feature of the celebrations throughout New Zealand will be a service on the Petone foreshore, near the spot where the first Presbyterian service was held in 1840.
