Waikato Stud buys shares
NZPA-AAP Sydney The Waikato Stud has secured the controlling interest in Twig Moss, the leading sire in Australia for the 1985-86 season, in a deal which values the horse at sAustB.6 million. The purchase, from one
of Australia’s leading studs, Blandford Park, Ltd, saw 33 of the 54 shares in Twig Moss realise sAust4.9 million. The French-bred Twig Moss, foaled in 1973, will continue to stand at Blandford Park Stud,
Murrurundi, for the remainder of this breeding season then will move to Balfour Stud, also in the Hunter Valley. Balfour Stud was recently bought by Australasian Breeding Stables, Ltd, (NZ), which is the major shareholder in Waikato Stud. The deal, the largest transaction in Australian and New Zealand bloodstock history, is a considerable coup for negotiators, the Breeders’ Agency of Australasia, as it represents an export sale for the Australian industry while allowing the stallion to continue to stand in Australia.
