Jockeys fined
Vail of Tralee was checked near the 800 metres in the Benson and Hedges Gold Cup at Riccarton on Saturday when improving on the inside of Giveaway.
The judicial committee upheld a charge of careless riding against Giveaway’s rider Jodi Woledge and fined him $lOO. Raymond Bruce was fined $lOO after being found guilty of careless riding on Last Straw about 300 metres from home in the Avon City Ford Plate. Bruce’s mount caused interference to Knightly Image, ridden by Maree Lyndon. An objection by Lyndon against Last Straw, which finished second, was not upheld. The committee considered that although interference had occurred it was not sufficient to justify altering the judge’s placings.
