DIRECTOR New Zealand Tourism Training Development Unit The new unit, set up as a result of rapid expansion of Tourism in New Zealand will be funded for an initial 3 year period jointly by the New Zealand Government and the New Zealand Tourist Industry Federation. The Task The job offers an unusual opportunity to make a major contribution to the Tourist Industry and the New Zealand economy through human resource development. The Director will establish and provide a focus of experience and professional assistance that will co-ordinate and enhance the value of existing provision of human resource development expertise within the industry. Training development will be a particular emphasis. Working with established training boards, the New Zealand Tourist industry Federation, tertiary education, individual firms and the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department, the Unit will be concerned with: — analysis of needs, review of existing and proposed programmes, methods and educational technology; — provision for specialist advice information and services; — collaborative development of creative and effective learning systems (probably with a ‘learner controlled’ and distanced learning emphasis); — development of trainers and training skills within the industry. The Person . , The person appointed must be capable of making a rapid and significant impact by virtue of the qualifications, experience and personal characteristics indicated by some or all of the following: — a university degree with a sound grasp of learning theory, educational technlogy and/or psychology; — a recognised training or teaching qualification; — success with the design and management of creative learning environment; — consulting and facilitation skills; — management and communication skills. The Rewards Salary negotiable but within the region of $40,000 to $50,000.
