$90 a second for trainer-driver
Should the trainer of the winner of the Toyota New Zealand Cup also drive him to victory, he will receive more than $9O a second for his efforts in the race. The only exception will be when the trainer is also the owner or part-owner. In that case no driving fee is payable. The winning driving fee in the race is $6630, while trainers usually receive 10 per cent of stakemoney. The $275,000 will be split among the first six
horses to finish. The winner will receive $165,000 plus a trophy and a satin dress rug, with $55,000 going to the runner-up, $27,500 to the third horse, $13,750 for fourth, $8250 for fifth and $5500 for sixth. The driver of the second horse will receive a fee of $2230, while the driving fee for third is $ll3O, $5BO for fourth, $360 for fifth and $250 for sixth.
Owners have to pay an acceptance fee of $2475 to start in the event.
