Buried Army

Sir, —Mr Coley states in his reply (October 31) that the Robert McDougall Art Gallery desperately requires additional space to fulfil its fundamental obligations. Indeed one could add to this additional funding and a more aggressive acquisition policy. Whether they be art or artefact, blockbuster shows such as the Buried Army or Te Maori bring the crowds to the gallery, thus emphasising its overtaxed resources. Surely, Mr Hurrell could overlook his academic concerns and join forces with Mr Coley in lobbying for additional space and funding for the McDougall, so that it may fulfil its fundamental obligations to the city. — Yours, etc.,

PAUL SUTHERLAND. November 6, 1986.
