Minister’s patience tested by mail-in
PA Wellington The Minister of Education, Mr Marshall, has received 3000 letters in two months from people mistakenly believing he is about to stop Bible studies in schools. Mr Marshall said he was angry at what he called an “orchestrated mail-in campaign.”
Efforts to uncover the source of the rumour had not been successful, and the continuing flow of
letters had sorely tested the patience of himself and his staff, he said. Under existing law, primary and intermediate school committees are allowed to offer 30 minutes of religious instruction each week, given while the schools are in theory closed. “The Government has no plans to remove that right and never had,” Mr Marshall said in a statement.
