Nuclear arms accord pursued
NZPA-Reuter Vienna The Soviet Foreign Minister, Eduard Shevardnadze, arrived in Vienna yesterday where he will meet the American Secretary of State, George Shultz, this week to study the next steps in nuclear arms talks between the super-Powers. •An intensive round of diplomatic contacts was certain as Messrs Shevardnadze, Shultz and 33 other Foreign Ministers gather for the opening of a follow-up meeting of the Conference on Security and Co-operation in Europe. "The Vienna meeting of the C.S.C.E. could not have come at a better time,” said Mr Shevardnadze on arrival. He is due to meet Mr Shultz for two hours tomorrow afternoon and 2>4 hours on Thursday morning. They are expected to consider how to build on the results of the Iceland summit meeting between President Ronald Reagan and the Soviet leader, Mikhail Gorbachev, that narrowly failed to reach a nuclear disarmament agreement.
