PA Wellington The four New Zealanders being held on Reunion Island will appear before a French court tomorrow to determine whether they will .stand trial or be .allowed to leave, according to the wife of one of toe men. , Mrs Diana Symes, of Mattia, the wife of Arthur Symes, who was one of the crew on the Southern Raider, said she bad spoken to her husband by telephone. Mrs Symes said the lawyer defending toe crew, Jean-Francois Bomnod, had asked for a judicial court rather than a judge alone to decide about the charges. If all went well at tomorrow’s court hearing, Mrs Symes said, her husband would be on a flight

out of the territory by Friday and she would meet him in Singapore for a week’s holiday before they returned to New Zealand. if the men had to stand trial — they are being held on drugs charges — then she would leave New Zealand on Thursday for Reunion Island. She understood a visa was being processed by the French Embassy in Wellington yesterday. Mrs Symes said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Wellington had been helpful in liaising with the families of the crew.

The New Zealand crew on the island were billetted and were all right although restricted in what they could do, she said.
