Browne to ride at Flemiffigton
From J. J. BOYLE in Melbourne Racegoers at Flemington today will experience the rare sight of seeing an owner riding his own horse in the Breville Cup Hurdles. Ken Browne, that durable grandfather from the Waikato, has secured special permission to ride his colour-
bearer, Trelay Boy, in the first race on today’s programme. Browne supplied the chief steward, Mr Pat Lalor, with details of his race-riding record in New Zealand in his application for permission to ride in today’s $30,500 race. Yesterday Trelay Boy
was a nine-to-two third favourite. The nine-to-four favourite was Colonial King, which is New Zealand-bred and will be ridden by the former Wingatui jockey, “Nick” Harnett. This was a successful combination in an eventful hurdle race at Werribee last week.
