Leaders to get gift of peace
New Zealand’s leaders in Parliament will get a different gift on Friday — 1.85 million minutes of peace, with love from New Zealanders. This will be the end of a month-long, world-wide campaign to get people in every country to think about peace for one million minutes. New Zealanders exceeded the one million goal, which pleased campaign organisers.
The campaign will officially end world-wide on Friday, which is United Nations Day. The United Nations will be presented
with the total of 225 million minutes of peace, collected by all the participating countries, to mark this. A free concert, with items of music and song interspersed with peace messages from international and New Zealand peace campaigners, will be held at the Christchurch Town Hall tomorrow at 7.45 p.m. The million minutes of peace campaign caught the imaginations of celebrities, schoolchildren, sports people, artists, politictians, and others in about 50 countries.
