Consultant team out to win systems sales

Businessworld Computers, Ltd, has boosted its business systems and resources in a move which it hopes will help it secure the lion’s share of the lucrative business systems market. As part of the company’s drive for a greater share of the market a total of 25 systems consultants have been formed into a separate division working under the direction of a senior management team comprising Brian Heald, Alec Tod, and Brian Butler. This division will concentrate on the mid-range corporate sector. The division will offer services on either a consultancy or contractual basis for all IBM System/ 34 or 36 users, regardless of software. “We are fortunate to have considerable depth of experience within the systems division which allows us to tackle the full range of accounting, distribution and manufacturing applications,” said Businessworld managing director, Mr Bruce Foulds. “In addition we have very strong programming skills in the RPG II language area and support

the System/36 program generator IPG II on a nationwide basis.” IBM announced the authorisation of Businessworld to act as a reseller of its System/36 equipment. The appointment included all 10 Businessworld centres across New Zealand. It was a departure for IBM, which had previously sold its System/36 equipment direct to the market and reinforces the association with Businessworld which became the leading distributor of IBM PCs in its four years of operation. Complementing its IBM System/36 hardware, Businessworld markets a range of software backed up by a commitment to provide close support of clients. “Our experience in the PC market has demonstrated the real value in offering substantial and national support for clients,” said Mr Foulds. “Our growth has been linked to an effective combination of leading equipment and clientoriented service which ensures they get the best value from the equipment and software they purchase.

“We are now applying the same principles in a more focused way to the systems market.” The development of the systems division was foreshadowed at the time the company announced the securing of a master franchise agreement with Computer Land. Businessworld’s PC division will now operate under the extensive international Computer Land umbrella.
